9:49 AM CST – GREETINGS EARTHLINGS! – Today is Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 and it’s a beautiful day in Alabama. The weather is sunny at 79°F. The sky was clear blue when I walked outside awhile ago. My focus today is to get some housework done, and also I want to get some National Park Service links up on the website. These will be the “Find A Park” links that you can find directly on the National Park Service Website. Yes I know you can just go directly over there to the NPS website to access these links, but for browsing purposes around the bliptype.com website, I think these links could be beneficial as a resource, if not to anyone else, but to myself for curation purposes. The way that the NPS website has their navigation set up for these links is slightly cumbersome in the way that they are tied to a dropdown menu. Dropdown menus are fine as long as they can be found on all of the pages that are being linked to in the menu. NPS does not do this. So you have to use your back button in your browser, and there is no “open in new tab” ability with the dropdown menu they have. I’m not trying to talk negatively about the NPS website choice of navigation for the Find A Park By State sections of it’s website. Their website is a very valuable resource. I just think a simple list to all of the states pages for Find A Park By State will be beneficial. So I will be bouncing back and forth today from getting some housework done, and making this list.
12:31 PM CST – NPS FIND A PARK LIST COMPLETED – I have so far today accomplished one of the things I said I would focus on. I put together the “Find A Park” link list for National Park Service pages for each State and U.S. territories. I have posted this list on the website. Now it’s time to get busy doing some other things that I would like to get done around my home, and then I’ll see what other work I can get back to online.
1:03 PM CST – CURATOR BLOCK – I have gotten myself stuck on how I’m going to go about curating the National Park Service list on Blipseekr’s Twitter. Obviously on Twitter I can only add accounts that are on Twitter to the Twitter list. I have discovered however through browsing the National Park Service website, that not all NPS locations have an account on Twitter. Since many of the locations are historical sites and monuments, I guess I can understand there not being a need for the NPS to have an account for all of it’s 400+ locations, however as a new content curator I’m a little disappointed lol. I’m disappointed because I feel like they should have an account for every single one. We can’t have everything we want though right. I know that the right answer to this problem for curating this Twitter list is to just add the accounts that are on Twitter which is an obvious, but in the directory I am building for Bliptype, I want to list every location that is listed on the NPS website. I think what I may have to do is create two sections in the directory. One for the Twitter list, and another set of listings for locations that are not on Twitter. Or I can just say fuck it and list what I find on Twitter and let that be it lol. Maybe I’m overthinking this.
